Every venue below is one I have worked in, not one I have read about. For each I have written what it is really like to photograph — where the light comes from, how the space behaves once two hundred guests are inside it, and what to plan around. Western Sicily

A private eighteenth-century estate with a palm garden, a lake and frescoed rooms. Light arrives filtered through the trees all afternoon, which is the kindest possible light for portraits, and the ballroom holds candlelight beautifully after dark.

Art Nouveau interiors above the bay of Palermo. The terraced gardens give you three completely different backdrops within fifty metres, and guests can stay on site — which removes most of the logistics from the wedding day.
Ionian Coast

The most theatrical baroque interior in eastern Sicily and still a private home. The mirrored music room is a challenge to photograph and a joy when it works: shoot it with available light and it looks like a painting.

Lava stone cloisters on a monumental scale, ten minutes from Catania airport. The scale flatters wide documentary frames and the courtyards stay comfortable even in July evenings.
South East
Siracusa — Ortigia · Castle · Up to 400 guests
A thirteenth-century fortress on the tip of Ortigia, with sea on three sides. Sunset arrives from behind the walls and the stone turns amber for about twenty minutes — plan the ceremony around it, not the other way round.
Val di Noto

A restored nineteenth-century masseria among olive groves and dry-stone walls. Understated, very quiet, and the only light after dinner is candlelight — which is exactly why the reportage from here looks the way it does.

A private country villa with a walled garden and long tables under the pergola. Ideal for couples who want the whole celebration in one place, from aperitivo to the last dance.
South East
Ragusa · Castle · Up to 250 guests
Neo-Gothic façade, a stone labyrinth and a park that photographs like a film set — it has been used as one more than once. Bring comfortable shoes: the best portrait spots are a five-minute walk from the terrace.
Western Sicily
Trapani · Wine estate · Up to 200 guests
A working Firriato wine estate looking towards Erice and the salt pans. The sunsets here are the strongest on the island, and dinner among the vines needs almost no styling.
Val di Noto

A large masseria with courtyards, carob trees and enough space to keep ceremony, dinner and party in three distinct settings. Good for multi-day celebrations with guests sleeping on site.
Ionian Coast
Taormina · Grand hotel · Up to 150 guests
Beside the Greek Theatre, with Etna filling the frame from the terrace. The famous view faces south-west, so late afternoon is when the volcano and the couple can be in the same photograph without silhouettes.

Directly on the bay of Mazzarò, a cable car below Taormina. The intimate choice: dinner with your feet almost in the sea and reflected light that makes evening portraits effortless.
Aeolian Islands

Malvasia vineyards running down to the sea with Stromboli on the horizon. Small guest numbers only, ferries to plan for — and one of the few places in Italy where the whole wedding can happen outdoors from morning to midnight.
Etna

An organic estate on the black volcanic slopes of Etna, cooler than the coast in August. Contemporary interiors against lava stone: the most modern-looking reportage you can get in Sicily.
