Wedding photography location in Castelbuono & the Madonie, Sicily

Destination wedding in Castelbuono & the Madonie

A medieval castle, chestnut forests and mountain air an hour from the sea.

Region

Madonie Mountains

Best months

June to October. July and August here are far cooler than the coast, which makes it a rare option for a midsummer outdoor wedding.

Getting there

About 1 hour 20 minutes from Palermo airport, 30 minutes from Cefalù. Civil ceremonies can be celebrated in the castle. Mountain roads are narrow: minibuses rather than coaches.

Getting married in Castelbuono & the Madonie

Castelbuono sits at 400 metres inside the Madonie regional park, built around the 14th century Ventimiglia castle. The surrounding mountains reach almost 2,000 metres and are covered in beech, chestnut and manna ash — the last place in Europe where manna is still harvested by hand.

It is the alternative Sicily: cool summer evenings, stone villages, and a landscape that in October turns entirely gold. Ideal for couples who love the mountains but want the sea forty minutes away in Cefalù.

Frequently asked questions

Is a mountain wedding still 'Sicilian'?

Completely. The Madonie are one of the oldest inhabited parts of the island, and the food and hospitality are as Sicilian as it gets.

Can we combine mountains and sea in one day?

Yes, Cefalù is half an hour away, so a sunset beach session after a castle ceremony is realistic.
