Destination wedding in Milazzo
A castle on a headland and the gateway to the Aeolian Islands.
Region
North East
Best months
May to October. The cape is windy, which is excellent for veils and for keeping guests comfortable.
Getting there
About ninety minutes from Catania airport and forty from Messina. Civil ceremonies are celebrated in the castle complex, which is one of the most impressive municipal venues on the island. Hydrofoils to the Aeolians leave from the port.
Getting married in Milazzo
Milazzo occupies a long, narrow cape reaching into the Tyrrhenian, crowned by one of the largest fortified citadels in Sicily. From the walls of the castle you see both sides of the peninsula and, on clear days, the outline of the Aeolian Islands.
For couples it combines two things that rarely go together: a historic fortress for the ceremony and a wild coastline — Piscina di Venere, Capo Milazzo — five minutes away for the portrait session.
Venues and locations I use in Milazzo
- Castello di Milazzo — the citadel and the old cathedral inside the walls
- Capo Milazzo, the lighthouse and the Piscina di Venere natural pool
- Seafront villas and resorts along the Tono coast
- Country estates in the hills behind the town
- Boat departures for a session towards the Aeolian Islands

Frequently asked questions
Can we combine Milazzo with an island wedding?
Very often couples marry in Milazzo castle and then take guests to the Aeolians for the following days, which works well logistically.
Is the Piscina di Venere reachable in a dress?
The upper viewpoint is easy; the descent to the pool is a rough path, so we usually shoot from the cliff above.
