Getting married in Ragusa Ibla

Ragusa Ibla is the older half of Ragusa, a dense knot of baroque houses and churches on a rocky spur, separated from the modern town by a deep valley. From the belvedere of Santa Maria delle Scale you look down on a sea of rooftops with the dome of San Giorgio rising out of it — an image that has become the signature of any Ragusa wedding.

This is the Sicily of slow evenings: the Giardino Ibleo at the eastern tip of the town, the steps of Santa Maria dell'Itria, and dinner in a courtyard where the stone still radiates warmth at midnight.
