Wedding photography location in Lipari, Sicily

Destination wedding in Lipari

The main island of the Aeolians, a UNESCO archipelago in the Tyrrhenian.

Region

Aeolian Islands

Best months

June, September and the first half of October. Sea conditions are the main variable, not temperature.

Getting there

Hydrofoil from Milazzo, which is about ninety minutes from Catania airport. Everything reaches the island by sea, so suppliers must be booked with a margin for weather. The Comune di Lipari celebrates civil ceremonies, including in the castle area.

Getting married in Lipari

Lipari is the largest and liveliest of the Aeolian Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage archipelago of seven volcanic islands north of Sicily. Its fortified acropolis rises straight out of the harbour, and the white pumice quarries on the eastern coast fall into water of an improbable turquoise.

It is the natural base for an island wedding: enough accommodation and services for a real guest list, with Vulcano, Salina and Panarea all within a short boat ride for the days around the ceremony.

Venues and locations I use in Lipari

  • Castello di Lipari and the cathedral inside the acropolis walls
  • Terraced hotels above Marina Corta with views to Vulcano
  • Private villas with pools looking at the archipelago
  • Boat charter for a session between the islands
  • Quattrocchi belvedere at sunset for the couple portraits

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the sea is rough?

We build a buffer day into the schedule. I always arrive on the island the day before the wedding, never on the morning itself.

Can we visit Stromboli for a session?

Yes, a sunset boat trip towards Stromboli's eruptions is one of the most memorable next-day sessions in Italy.
